Pankaj Udhas, the legendary singer known for hits like “Chitthi aayi hai,” passed away today following a protracted illness, according to his family. He was seventy-two.
A statement from the Udhas family said, “With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padma Shri Pankaj Udhas on 26 February due to a prolonged illness.”

As per a family source cited by news agency PTI, Udhas, who gained recognition as a playback singer in Hindi films such as “Naam”, “Saajan”, and “Mohra”, passed away at the Breach Candy hospital at approximately 11 am.

Taking to Instagram, Pankaj Udhas’ daughter Nayaab shared a statement on Instagram which read, “With a heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to a prolonged illness.”

His last rites will be held on Tuesday. Pankaj is survived by wife Farida Udhas, daughters Nayaab and Reva Udhas, and brothers Nirmal and Manhar Udhas, who are also singers.
