Archana Puran Singh is currently preparing for the debut of her upcoming comedy series, “The Great Indian Kapil Show,” on Netflix, where she will be joined by Kapil Sharma, Sunil Grover, and others. Known for her role as a judge on various comedy programs, Archana recently addressed past criticisms of her perceived “false-laughing” at jokes deemed subpar during the show’s press conference, according to a national news daily.

Clarifying the issue further, she said, “Previously, people used to accuse me of laughing at bad jokes as well, which I wasn’t happy about. What would happen then is that if a joke lacked punch, the makers thought that using my laughter would compensate, but it didn’t work that way. The joke didn’t become funnier, and I bore the brunt of criticism. People started to think, ‘this woman is crazy, she’s laughing for no reason.’ The authenticity of my laughter suffered.”

She stated, “Anyway, now I am happy to say that there are very few instances when the jokes lack punch, necessitating ‘false-laughing.’ That’s number 1. Number 2 is that Kapil now openly critiques jokes onstage, saying ‘you should have said that, this joke didn’t land.’ We even air these moments. So, we’re the first to laugh at ourselves, and that’s why the audience laughs with us.” She also mentioned that such occurrences are now infrequent.

Archana elaborated on the transformation of her approach, remarking, “It doesn’t happen anymore. Now, in the last three years since we’ve been doing the show, and especially now that we’re on Netflix.”
