The West Bengal government has urged the Centre to safeguard the state’s interests ahead of the renewal of the 30-year Ganga-Padma water-sharing agreement with Bangladesh. The agreement is scheduled to expire in December. The state wants its concerns and water requirements to be taken into account during discussions on renewing the pact.
