Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who became widely known after the 2019 India-Pakistan aerial confrontation, has retired from the Indian Air Force. During the Balakot episode, he spent around 60 hours in Pakistani custody after his aircraft was shot down. Following his retirement, Abhinandan is set to begin a new career flying passenger aircraft.
