Actress Lara Dutta applauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 21 for his derogatory remarks made about Muslims while on a campaign trail in Rajasthan. While promoting her next show, Ranneeti: Balakot & Beyond, Lara Dutta gave a compliment to Modi for “sticking to his convictions” in an interview with Zoom Entertainment.
She said, “We are all humans at the end of the day and it is difficult to please everyone all the time. You can’t keep treading on eggshells just because you don’t want to upset one side or the other. Somewhere down the line, you have to be honest with your truth and what you believe in. And if he [the Prime Minister] has the gumption to be able to do that, kudos. At the end of the day, you have to stand by your beliefs.”
For the interview, Lara Dutta who also had her co-star Jimmy Shergill for company also expressed his disdain for ‘unpatriotic Indian citizens.’
Modi said in his speech that the Congress will give people’s wealth to “infiltrators” and “those who have more children.”
He proceeded to assert that the Congress manifesto mentions robbing their “mothers and daughters” of gold and giving it to Muslims. On April 22, Modi reiterated the same remarks in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, omitting any mention of Muslims. On April 25, Ranneeti: Balakot & Beyond will be available on Jio Cinemas, an OTT platform. The drama takes place in the wake of Pakistan’s attack on Pulwama and follows the Indian army’s response.
