Indian-Origin Couple, Daughter Killed In ‘Mysterious’ Fire At Canada Home

A “mysterious” fire that started at the home of an Indian couple in Canada’s Ontario province claimed the lives of three people — the couple and their teenage daughter. The bodies were fully burned and identified yesterday, according to the police, who stated that the incident happened on March 7.
Rajiv Warikoo, 51, his wife Shilpa Kotha, 47, and their 16-year-old daughter Mahek Warikoo have been named as the victims.

Although the police initially reported the incident as a residential fire, they later stated that it might not have been an accident. Peel Police Constable Taryn Young called the fire “suspicious” and stated that they are looking through all of the available evidence to determine what caused it.

“At this time, we are investigating this with our homicide bureau, and we are deeming this as suspicious as the Ontario Fire Marshal has deemed that this fire was not accidental,” Mr. Young stated to CTV news.

According to a Peel Police press release, a house at the intersection of Big Sky Way and Van Kirk Drive in Brampton caught fire on March 7.

The incident’s mysterious circumstances are further compounded by the fact that witnesses claimed to have heard a loud explosion prior to the residence being completely destroyed by fire. The family’s neighbor, Kenneth Yousaf, described the terrifying moment he saw the house completely consumed by flames.
