The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday officially declared the onset of the southwest monsoon over Mumbai, arriving nearly two weeks after its normal date of June 11. The country has recorded a rainfall deficit of 43% so far this season. IMD has said the monsoon is likely to advance into Bihar and Chhattisgarh within the next 48 hours.
