Another Indian Student Identified As Uma Satya Sai Gadde Dead In US

The Indian Consulate in New York announced on Friday that an Indian student had passed away in the US state of Ohio, and that an inquiry is being conducted to determine the cause of death.
The student was studying in Cleveland, Ohio, and has been identified as Uma Satya Sai Gadde. The Indian Consulate conveyed its condolences to the bereaved family and expressed its sadness over the loss. They promised to provide the family with all the support they could during this difficult time, even if it meant helping to get his body to India.

“Deeply saddened by the unfortunate demise of Mr. Uma Satya Sai Gadde, an Indian student in Cleveland, Ohio,” the New York Indian Consulate posted on X. “A police inquiry is in progress. The family in India is still in contact with @IndiainNewYork. We’re doing everything we can to help, including getting Mr. Uma Gadde’s body back to India as soon as possible.”

This incident is just one more instance in the alarming pattern of Indian-origin students dying in the US. Mohammed Abdul Arafat, another Indian student, vanished under mysterious circumstances from the Cleveland area in March. After that, his family got a call demanding a ransom to be paid before he could be freed.

Earlier this year, Syed Mazahir Ali, a student from Hyderabad, was brutally attacked in Chicago, leaving him severely injured. The Indian Consulate in Chicago promptly intervened, offering support to Mr Ali and his family. The death of Neel Acharya, a student at Indiana’s Purdue University, and the brutal killing of Vivek Saini in Georgia, sent shockwaves among the Indian community in the US.

Since the beginning of 2024, there have been at least 10 deaths involving Indian or Indian-origin students in the US.
