In a gruesome and shocking incident in West Bengal’s East Midnapore district, a 40-year-old man identified as Goutam Guchhait was apprehended by local authorities after allegedly killing his wife and carrying her severed head in public. The incident, which occurred near the Chistipur bus stop, sent shockwaves through the community.
According to reports from India Today, horrified locals witnessed Guchhait covered in blood, brandishing the chopped head of his wife, prompting immediate calls to law enforcement. Upon arrival, police swiftly arrested the accused.
Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that Guchhait, believed to be mentally unstable, committed the heinous act following a domestic altercation. The accused purportedly used a sharp weapon to decapitate his wife.
A subsequent search of Guchhait’s residence led to the discovery of the victim’s body. Authorities have initiated further inquiries into the incident.
This disturbing event bears resemblance to a similar occurrence in December last year in Odisha’s Nayagarh district, where a man surrendered himself at a police station, confessing to the murder of his wife over suspicions of infidelity. The accused, identified as Arjun Bagha, arrived at the Banigochha police station with his wife’s severed head, citing marital discord as the motive for the brutal act.
Bagha, a resident of Bidapaju village, confessed to using a sharp weapon to kill his 30-year-old wife, Dharitri, whom he suspected of engaging in an extramarital affair.
