Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao recently shared insights into the iconic sindoor moment from his wedding to actress Patralekhaa, a gesture that broke traditional norms and captured widespread attention. Speaking with journalist Barkha Dutt on Mojo Story, Rajkummar revealed that the decision was spontaneous and born out of a desire for equality.
“At that moment, it was very impulsive,” said Rajkummar. “I felt, why is it just her wearing the sindoor, mangalsutra, and chooda? She had to wear and do so much, and I was just wearing a ring. I thought, ‘It should be equal.’ So, I asked her to put sindoor on me too.”
Patralekhaa’s reaction, according to Rajkummar, was one of overwhelming emotion. “She knows me very well, so this wasn’t entirely unexpected. We were just so happy to get married,” he added, noting how the moment later resonated with many people for its symbolism.
Rajkummar also highlighted how they questioned traditional wedding rituals during their ceremony. “We wanted to understand what the Pandit ji was saying during the pheras. Some promises didn’t sit well with us, like the one saying she couldn’t get angry at me. I immediately said, ‘This one is not happening.’”
The couple, who tied the knot on November 15, 2021, after dating for over 11 years, celebrated their love with a close-knit ceremony attended by friends and family. Announcing their union on Instagram, Rajkummar wrote, “Finally, after 11 years of love, romance, friendship, and fun, I got married to my everything today… my soulmate, my best friend, my family. Here’s to forever… and beyond.”
A Stellar Year Professionally
On the work front, Rajkummar Rao delivered back-to-back hits in 2024, including Mr. & Mrs. Mahi, Srikanth, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, and the much-anticipated Stree 2. Co-starring Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, and Aparshakti Khurana, the horror-comedy further cemented Rajkummar’s status as a versatile performer.
Patralekhaa, meanwhile, made waves with her role in IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, a gripping Netflix series led by Vijay Varma and directed by Anubhav Sinha. She is set to star alongside Pratik Gandhi in the upcoming biographical drama Phule.
Rajkummar and Patralekhaa’s story continues to inspire fans with its blend of love, equality, and mutual respect, setting new benchmarks for modern relationships.
