The recent rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata has shocked the nation, prompting widespread outrage and demands for justice. Bollywood actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut expressed her horror at the incident and called for a thorough investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Taking to her Instagram Stories, Kangana described the incident as “horrific” and voiced her hope that the case would be handed over to the CBI to ensure a comprehensive inquiry. She emphasized the need for the assaulter to face harsh punishment, stating, “The murder of a trainee woman doctor at state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata is horrible & horrific. The semi-nude body of the woman post-graduate trainee doctor was found inside the seminar hall on Friday morning. She was brutally murdered, and her body bore multiple injury marks. The preliminary autopsy report indicated sexual abuse before her murder. I hope the case is transferred to CBI for a complete inquiry, and the assaulter is punished harshly.”
The incident has sparked protests across the country, with doctors and medical students demanding justice for the victim. In response to the public outcry, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced that the state government will hand over the case to the CBI if the Kolkata Police fails to solve it by the end of the week. Banerjee also met with the victim’s family and assured them that the case would be tried in a fast-track court to expedite justice.
The Federation Of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) has called for a nationwide medical strike in response to the incident, highlighting the urgency of addressing safety concerns for medical professionals.
