Eighteen people lost their lives, and more than 19 others were injured when a double-decker sleeper bus collided with a milk container on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district early Wednesday morning.
UP Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said that all hospitals near Unnao have been put on high alert. He confirmed the fatalities and stated that the 19 injured have been sent to the Unnao district hospital, with some being transferred to higher-level medical facilities for more intensive care. The trauma centre at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) is also on high alert, and Pathak personally inspected the arrangements. He noted that most of the injured passengers are from Bihar. “The investigation will reveal the causes of the accident, but our priority at this time is to provide medical treatment to those injured,” Pathak said.
Unnao District Magistrate Gaurang Rathi provided further details, explaining that the private bus was en route to Delhi carrying 57 passengers when it collided with the milk container at approximately 5:15 am. He confirmed the tragic loss of 18 lives and mentioned that 19 passengers sustained injuries, while around 20 passengers were unharmed and are being transported to Delhi. “Of those injured, six have been referred to the Trauma Centre, while the others are receiving treatment at the district hospital,” Rathi said, adding that authorities have made ample arrangements for medical care and are taking swift action to address the situation.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and instructed the district administration to ensure the injured receive proper treatment.
As per reports the double-decker sleeper bus was on its way from Motihari, Bihar, to Delhi when it collided with a milk tanker from behind on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway near Gadha Village in the Behtamujawar Police Station area. Upon receiving notification of the accident, local police, led by Circle Officer Arvind Chaurasia from Bangarmau, swiftly arrived at the scene to initiate rescue operations.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and authorities are working to provide all necessary support to the victims and their families.
