Following the resignation of Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar, the BJP on Tuesday afternoon that Nayab Singh Saini will take over as the next chief minister of Haryana.
Nayab Saini, a prominent member of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community, was named the state chief of the BJP in October of last year. He represents Kurukshetra in the Lok Sabha.
He was chosen following a meeting of the BJP legislative party, which National General Secretary Tarun Chugh and Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda attended. He is to be sworn in at 5 p.m today.
Analysts have noted that the BJP frequently switches leaders ahead of state elections in an effort to stave off anti-incumbency sentiment. For instance, comparable actions were done prior to the elections in Uttarakhand and Gujarat. Both times, the BJP won handily.
Additionally, there are rumours that Khattar might now run for office in the Lok Sabha. He might run for the now-vacant seat of Kurukshetra.
