    Supreme Court: Governors cannot withhold bills indefinitely

    The Supreme Court ruled: Governors cannot indefinitely block bills passed by legislatures. They must assent to them, return them for reconsideration, or send them to the President. Setting deadlines for governors or the President violates their authority. A bench headed by CJI BR Gavai delivered this decision on petitions from opposition-ruled states.
