Star of the hit Doordarshan series Udaan, Kavita Chaudhary passed away at a hospital on Thursday night after suffering a cardiac arrest. She was 67. The actor was admitted to the hospital a few days ago.
She suffered a cardiac arrest and died at the hospital in Amritsar last night at 7:30 p.m. A few days ago, her low blood pressure led to her hospital admission. Later on, her condition grew critical,” Chaudhary’s nephew Ajay Sayal told PTI.
The last rites were performed on Thursday morning. She is survived by her nephew Ajay Sayal and her niece.
She was well-known for playing the homemaker Lalita ji in the Indian Surf detergent commercials from the late 1980s.
The most well-known role that Kavita Chaudhary played was that of IPS officer Kalyani Singh in the progressive Doordarshan series Udaan, which focused on women’s empowerment from 1989 to 1991. The serial was based on the life of her older sister, police officer Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya. She wrote and directed the show herself. Udaan also starred Shekhar Kapur and inspired a generation of women to pursue public service.
Actor Amit Behl was one of the colleagues who paid condolences on Chaudhary’s demise. “RIP Kavita Chaudhary, is baar aapne lambi udaan bhar li,Naman @CintaaOfficial @nsd_india,” he wrote on X.
