Prime Minister Modi Discusses Challenges and Responsibilities of Artificial Intelligence with Bill Gates

Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a candid discussion with Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates on the intricacies and challenges of Artificial Intelligence (AI) during a recent meeting. The dialogue, which touched upon the potentials and pitfalls of AI, underscored the importance of responsible deployment and awareness in harnessing this transformative technology.

Acknowledging the dual nature of AI, Gates remarked, “It will do things you think are hard and then will fail to do some things you feel are easy.” Emphasizing the need for enhanced accuracy, Gates highlighted the role of AI as a supportive tool, yet stressed that ultimate decision-making should remain with humans, particularly in critical areas like healthcare and communication.

PM Modi echoed similar sentiments, cautioning against the misuse of AI in untrained hands. He proposed the implementation of clear watermarks on AI-generated content to mitigate the spread of misinformation, particularly through deepfake technology. Citing personal experiences, PM Modi highlighted the prevalence of deepfake videos, urging for proactive measures to combat their dissemination.

Furthermore, PM Modi advocated for responsible media practices in educating the public about the dangers of deepfakes and the ethical use of AI. He emphasized the importance of utilizing AI within areas of expertise and cautioned against over-reliance on the technology for trivial purposes.

In a lighthearted moment, PM Modi humorously juxtaposed the term “AI” with the endearing term “aai” used for mothers in various Indian languages, illustrating the evolving landscape of technology in everyday life.

Gates commended India’s strides in integrating AI across diverse sectors, foreseeing its potential to enhance existing digital infrastructure and improve societal value. He highlighted forthcoming advancements in AI applications, particularly in areas such as agriculture, education, and healthcare.
