Convent School Teacher Tells Students “Mahabharat, Ramayan Imaginary”, Dismissed

A teacher at a school in Mangaluru, Karnataka, was fired following criticism from a right-wing group for allegedly making disparaging remarks about the Mahabharat, and Ramayan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The parents claimed that the teacher taught class 7 students that Lord Ram was a “mythical creature”.

The Deputy Director of Public Instructions (DDPI) is investigating the case. The school has dismissed the teacher over the alleged remarks.

A group of people with the backing of BJP MLA Vedyas Kamath, claimed that a teacher at St Gerosa English HR Primary School had taught pupils that the Ramayana and the Mahabharat were “imaginary”.

The group claimed that in criticizing PM Modi, the teacher brought up the Godhra riots of 2002 and the Bilkis Bano gang-rape case. The group complained that she was attempting to “induce feelings of hatred in the minds of children”.

They staged protests on Saturday as well, and the BJP MLA joined them today to call for the teacher’s suspension.

“What has happened to your moral compass if you are going to support that kind of teacher? Why do you still employ that teacher? Peace is something that the Jesus you worship desires. Your sisters are requesting that our Hindu children refrain from wearing anklets, flowers, or bindis. They claim that it is a waste to pour milk on Lord Ram”.
