As Delhi anticipates the formation of its new government, newly elected BJP MLA and national secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa shared an update on the timeline. Speaking to PTI, Sirsa stated that the new government will begin its work between February 19 and 20. The BJP legislature party meeting is expected to take place around February 18-19, coinciding with the return of Prime Minister Modi from his foreign visit. Sirsa confirmed that the new government would be formed by February 20, following the swearing-in ceremony.
Regarding the ongoing speculation about the Chief Minister’s post, Rajouri Garden MLA Sirsa, who is often mentioned as a potential candidate, dismissed the claims as “mere speculations.” Laxmi Nagar MLA Abhay Verma, another name in the mix for the CM position, added that there is no “race” for the role. According to Verma, the decision on the Chief Minister or the leader of the legislature party will be made during a meeting of the elected MLAs.
The BJP’s victory in the 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections marked the party’s return to power in the capital after 27 years, securing 48 seats and defeating Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). With all eyes now on the Chief Minister’s nomination, speculation continues, though it is expected that the final decision will be made once PM Modi returns.
BJP MLA Mohan Singh Bisht also confirmed that the new Delhi Chief Minister will be chosen from among the 48 BJP legislators.
On policy priorities, BJP MLAs highlighted key initiatives that the new government will focus on. According to Sirsa, the first Cabinet meeting will see the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme, which had been obstructed by the previous AAP government. The BJP also plans to prioritize infrastructure development, with a strong emphasis on providing clean drinking water, improving sanitation, and tackling air and Yamuna pollution within the first 100 days in office.
