Australian Open Men’s Singles: Alcaraz-Djokovic Could Meet In Quarterfinals

Novak Djokovic, aiming for an unprecedented 25th Grand Slam title and an 11th Australian Open trophy, could potentially face a thrilling quarterfinal matchup against four-time major winner Carlos Alcaraz at the 2025 Australian Open. Meanwhile, world No. 1 and defending champion Jannik Sinner will begin his campaign against Chile’s Nicolas Jarry in the first round.

Sinner, who claimed his first Grand Slam title by defeating Daniil Medvedev in the 2024 final, could meet 13th seed Holger Rune in the fourth round. He may then face either 8th seed Alex de Minaur or 11th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals. If the Italian navigates through his quarter, a potential semifinal rematch with Medvedev could be on the cards.

Medvedev, seeded No. 5, will begin his tournament against a wildcard. The Russian will have to overcome Alexei Popyrin, the 25th seed, in the third round, followed by No. 17 seed Frances Tiafoe in the fourth round, and possibly Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals.

Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam winner, will start his pursuit of a record-extending 11th Australian Open title against U.S. wildcard Nishesh Basavareddy. The Serbian could then face Reily Opelka, who recently defeated him in the Brisbane International quarterfinals. Sumit Nagal, also in Djokovic’s quarter, will open his tournament against No. 26 seed Tomas Maohao, with a top-100 ranking at stake.

Alcaraz, aiming for a Career Slam, will begin his journey against Kazakhstan’s Alexander Shevchenko in the first round. The winner of this exciting quarterfinal could meet second-seeded German Alexander Zverev, who starts his campaign against French wildcard Lucas Pouille.
