Bollywood actor Ram Kapoor, who played a significant role in Alia Bhatt’s debut film Student of the Year, recently spoke to Siddharth Kannan about Alia’s impressive rise in the film industry. Kapoor shared his thoughts on her acting prowess, professionalism, and how she has defied initial expectations to become one of the leading stars in Bollywood.
Recalling the days when Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Siddharth Malhotra made their debut together in Student of the Year, Kapoor noted that Alia was often overlooked at the time. He said that many believed Varun and Siddharth had a better chance at success, while Alia was perceived as too young and inexperienced to make a significant impact in the industry.
“She is Alia Bhatt today, married to a Kapoor. If she goes the way she is going now, she will be Deepika Padukone,” Ram Kapoor remarked, highlighting Alia’s potential to achieve a stature similar to that of Deepika. He dismissed the notion that her success is solely due to her family background, emphasizing her professionalism and work ethic.
“She is not a bloody star child. She is more professional than anyone. I know ad filmmakers who have worked with her, and they all praise her dedication. On sets, she addresses every director as ‘Sir’, even if they are younger than her,” Kapoor added.
Kapoor further reminisced about the early days of Alia’s career. “Everyone was so young. The industry is so hard that everybody was looking at her with doubt. Alia was the youngest. At that point, if you told anyone that Alia would achieve what she has achieved today, nobody would believe it,” he said.
He also praised Alia’s transformation over the years, saying, “She was a small little baby, literally. She still had baby cheeks. She is not the Alia of today. For Varun and Siddharth, people thought that maybe they have a chance, but Alia was such a baby. Looking at what she has achieved today, hats off!”
On the professional front, Alia Bhatt continues to scale new heights. Her upcoming film Alpha is directed by Shiv Rawail, known for the streaming series The Railway Men, produced by Yash Raj Films (YRF). The film marks the first female-led project in YRF’s spy universe and also stars Sharvari and Anil Kapoor. The makers recently unveiled the film’s title in a special video.
In addition to Alpha, Alia will be seen in Love And War, a Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial. The film features an ensemble cast, including Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal. With these high-profile projects, Alia Bhatt is set to continue her remarkable journey in Bollywood, proving her mettle as one of the finest actors of her generation.
