Hollywood stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have finally settled their long-standing divorce after more than eight years of legal wrangling. Jolie’s lawyers confirmed that the settlement was signed on December 30.
“More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family,” said Jolie’s attorney James Simon of Hersh Mannis, in a statement to CNN. “Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”
Jolie filed for divorce in 2016 after a decade-long relationship and two years of marriage with Pitt. Together, the couple share six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne. The divorce process, which has spanned nearly a decade, was complicated by a series of disputes, including custody battles, allegations of abuse, and disagreements over shared properties.
One of the most significant events in their tumultuous split was a 2016 incident aboard a private jet, where Jolie accused Pitt of physical and verbal abuse toward her and their children. A heavily redacted FBI report released in 2022 detailed Jolie’s claims, but Pitt was never arrested or charged in connection with the allegations.
Following the flight, Jolie filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences and seeking sole physical custody of their children. The pair were granted a dissolution of their marriage status in 2019, but other legal matters—including custody and property disputes—continued to delay the final settlement.
Among the contested assets was Château Miraval, a French winery where the couple married in 2014. Jolie sold her stake in the property in 2021, a move Pitt challenged in court, alleging the sale was unlawful. That legal case is still ongoing.
In a 2020 interview with Vogue India, Jolie described her decision to separate from Pitt as one made for the “wellbeing” of her family, emphasizing her continued focus on healing for her children.
