An Air India flight from Mumbai to New York was diverted to Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Monday due to a bomb threat. The flight, which took off around 2 AM, was redirected to Delhi, where it remains grounded. Authorities are following all standard safety protocols to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.

A senior police officer said that the aircraft is currently stationed at the airport and that safety measures are being diligently implemented. The threat was initially reported via a message on X (formerly Twitter), prompting security agencies in Delhi to act swiftly and divert the flight.

Air India issued a statement confirming that Flight AI119 was diverted to Delhi on October 14 after receiving a specific security alert. “All passengers have disembarked and are currently at the Delhi airport terminal. Our staff on the ground is working to minimize any inconvenience caused to our guests,” the spokesperson added, emphasizing the airline’s commitment to passenger safety.

This incident follows a recent event involving an Air India Express flight bound for Sharjah from Tiruchirappalli, which encountered a technical glitch shortly after takeoff. The aircraft had to circle multiple times to reduce fuel and weight before safely landing. The fault was related to hydraulic systems and the landing gear, but the quick actions of the pilots ensured the safety of the 141 passengers on board. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin praised the crew for their effective handling of the situation.

An Air India Express spokesperson stated that the aircraft will be investigated for the technical issue, and an alternative flight is being arranged for passengers. They also expressed regret for any inconvenience and reaffirmed their commitment to prioritizing safety in all operations.
