Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Deletes Post On Ratan Tata After Internet Fumes Over It

Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma found himself at the center of online criticism following his tribute to Ratan Tata, leading him to delete his original post. Sharma’s message was intended to honor the esteemed industrialist, who passed away at the age of 86 on Wednesday. However, it sparked backlash amidst an outpouring of heartfelt tributes from prominent figures like Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal, People Group CEO Anupam Mittal, former Xiaomi CEO Manu Kumar Jain, and former BharatPe CEO Ashneer Grover.

While many tributes resonated positively with social media users, Sharma’s post did not elicit the same response. A particular line in his tribute was deemed inappropriate and disrespectful, prompting swift backlash. In his original message, Sharma described Tata as “a legend who will inspire every generation” and noted that “entrepreneurs of the next generation will miss interacting with the most humble businessman of India.” However, the phrase regarding future interactions drew considerable ire, with users expressing their disapproval across the platform.

One user commented, “In very bad taste. No need to mock like this @vijayshekhar,” while another stated, “Last line not appropriate… We lost an incredible person, Ratan Sir. May his departed soul rest in peace.” Additional responses echoed similar sentiments, criticizing the timing and tone of Sharma’s message.

After deleting the original tribute, Sharma issued a revised statement: “RNT for me was the most humbling business leader of India. Future generations of business leaders will miss his generous interactions and kindness. Salutes Sir. You will live in our hearts forever.”

Ratan Tata passed away at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, marking the end of an era in Indian business. His death has prompted widespread grief and tributes from across the nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered Tata as a visionary leader and a compassionate individual, while business magnates like Gautam Adani, Anand Mahindra, and Sundar Pichai also shared their condolences, reflecting the profound impact Tata had on India’s industrial landscape and his legacy as a global powerhouse.
