Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde Vows Stern Action Against Hit-and-Run Offenders

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde issued a stern statement on Monday, emphasizing that those involved in hit-and-run cases in the state will face consequences irrespective of their wealth or political connections.

In a social media post on ‘X,’ the office of Chief Minister Shinde asserted, “Chief Minister Shri said that whoever is guilty in these cases, no matter how rich, influential, or bureaucrat, children of people’s representatives and any party, they will not be supported.” The post further indicated that the Chief Minister has “directed strict action against perpetrators of ‘hit and run’ incidents in Maharashtra, ensuring no one is spared.”

Shinde’s decisive stance follows a series of high-profile hit-and-run cases that have recently made headlines across the state. Among these is the tragic Pune Porsche crash in May, where two tech professionals lost their lives. The incident, caused by a 17-year-old driver, sparked national outrage when the Juvenile Justice Board granted bail to the boy on lenient terms. The Pune police investigation revealed an alleged attempt by the accused’s parents and doctors at Sassoon Hospital to switch blood samples to nullify alcohol tests, and an effort to have the family driver take the blame for the crash.

In a separate incident on Sunday, a 45-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run in Worli. The incident allegedly involved a BMW driven by Mihir Shah, the son of a leader from the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction). Following the incident, a lookout notice was issued for Shah on Monday. CCTV footage captured Shah leaving a bar with friends shortly before the collision, though it remains unclear if the car seen in the footage is the BMW involved in the fatal accident.
