3 Independent MLAs Supporting BJP resign from HP Assembly paving way for byelections

On Friday, three BJP-supporting Independent MLAs reached the HP Vidhan Sabha to tender their resignations from the Himachal Assembly.
Ashish Sharma from Hamirpur, KL Thakur from Nalagarh, and Hoshiyar Singh from Dehra are the three Independent MLAs who have tendered their resignation to the Secretary of the Vidhan Sabha.

In addition to the six byelections that have already been announced, their resignation would allow for three additional byelections in the constituencies of the disqualified Congress MLAs.

Together with the six disqualified Congress MLAs, the three independent lawmakers had sided with the BJP during the Rajya Sabha elections and were making their camp in Delhi with the six disqualified Congress MLAs.

“Without any external pressure, we made the decision in the best interests of the state. Independent MLA Thakur stated, “There are no personal motives behind the decision”.

He said that all three MLAs have confidence in PM Narendra Modi’s leadership and the BJP.

According to news reports, JP Nadda, the president of the BJP, and all nine MLAs have met. There are rumors that the six Congress MLAs who have been disqualified may soon join the BJP.

It is highly likely that the Election Commission of India will announce elections for these three open seats since the final phase of the notification for the Lok Sabha and six Assembly bypolls scheduled for May 7.
