New Delhi: The Supreme Court said people cannot face criminal consequences for choosing not to sing one or more stanzas of Vande Mataram. The observation came while hearing Carnatic vocalist T M Krishna’s challenge to a law mandating all six stanzas. The court referred to its earlier ruling protecting an individual’s right not to sing the national anthem voluntarily.
