West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Survives Car Accident, Sustains Injury

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee narrowly escaped a potentially fatal accident today as her convoy was forced to abruptly halt to avoid a collision with another vehicle. The incident occurred while she was returning from Burdwan to Kolkata after a meeting on education, following a Supreme Court order.

Recounting the harrowing experience, Banerjee stated that a car approached from the front and nearly collided with her vehicle. “The car almost dashed me. I could have died. The driver had to apply the brake. I have a headache, blood also came out. I have worked in this condition. The window was open, that’s why I could survive. The law will take its course,” she affirmed.

Despite suffering a forehead injury and expressing feeling cold, Banerjee decided not to go to the hospital. “Police will do its work. I am feeling cold, I am going home,” she added.

Addressing the media after meeting Governor CV Ananda Bose at Raj Bhavan in Kolkata, she credited her safety to the blessings of the people.

The Congress General Secretary in-charge Communications, Jairam Ramesh, conveyed his party’s well-wishes for Banerjee’s recovery. “We wish her a full and speedy recovery,” he tweeted.

The accident unfolded due to the sudden appearance of another car in front of the Chief Minister’s convoy. Bad weather conditions prevented her from returning by helicopter.

As news of the incident spread, concerns over the safety of political figures were raised. The Chief Minister’s injuries, while not life-threatening, underscore the potential risks faced by public figures in the course of their duties.

The incident comes as the nation awaits the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’s entry into West Bengal, scheduled for tomorrow. The Congress party has announced that the Yatra will continue on the 28th, following a break on January 26 and 27.
