Rain to dominate North India in February, but tempt high: Met Dept

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast normal to above normal rainfall in North India in February, despite the fact that December 2023 and January 2024 were drier than average.

February would see more rainfall than usual in North India, which is divided into seven meteorological divisions: East and West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. According to the Met Department, February would probably see above-average maximum temperatures in some areas of Central and North India.

โ€œMonthly maximum temperatures for February 2024 are likely to be above normal over most parts of Northwest India, West Central India and Northeast India and some parts of East Central India. Normal to below-normal maximum temperatures are likely in most parts of the peninsular India, some parts of East Central India and isolated pockets over Northeast India,โ€ the IMD said.

The Met Department also said, โ€œBelow-normal cold wave days are expected over some parts of Central India during the month of February.โ€
