Protesters Hurl Stones At BJP Candidate In WB, Forcing Him To Flee

Stones were thrown at the BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Jhargram and his security guards during the sixth phase of voting on Saturday, forcing them to flee the Mangalapota area of Garbeta in the West Midnapore district.
In dramatic images, Pranat Tudu, the candidate, was being pursued by some individuals while security guards wearing shields attempted to shield him. A big stone struck a person a few centimeters away. The candidate, some security guards, and members of the media are seen running away as more stones continue to fall around them.

While Mr. Tudu has attributed the incident to “Trinamool Congress (TMC) goons” and stated that two of his security personnel had to be hospitalized due to head injuries, the ruling party in Bengal claimed that one of their security officers had attacked a woman while she was in line outside a polling booth to cast her ballot. They claimed that this started a protest.

The BJP claims that Mr. Tudu was en route to several Garpeta polling places when he heard that party operatives were not being permitted inside.

The TMC thugs who had blocked the roads suddenly began throwing bricks at my car. My security guards were hurt when they attempted to step in. The news agency PTI cited Mr. Tudu as saying, “Two CISF jawans who were with me suffered head injuries and had to be hospitalized.”

The TMC asserted, however, that a woman who was in line to vote was assaulted by Mr. Tudu’s security guards. A party leader claimed, “The villagers got angry and staged a protest.”
