Police Officer Killed, Gangster Shot Dead in Encounter Near GMC Hospital in Jammu and Kashmir

In a dramatic exchange of gunfire near the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, a gangster was shot dead while a probationary Sub-Inspector lost his life, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

The encounter unfolded when a team of officials acted upon a tip-off and pursued gangster Vasudev, a prime suspect in a murder case registered at Ramgarh police station. The pursuit intensified near the GMC hospital around 10:30 pm on Tuesday, leading to a fierce exchange of fire.

Tragically, Probationary Sub-Inspector Deepak Sharma sustained critical head injuries during the encounter and succumbed to his wounds despite receiving medical treatment. Additionally, a Special Police Officer identified as Anil Kumar, aged 40, was also injured during the operation.

According to a police spokesperson, Vasudev was fatally shot during the confrontation, while one of his associates sustained injuries. Both injured officers were initially admitted to GMC Hospital in Kathua and later transferred to Amandeep Hospital in Pathankot for further treatment.

Regrettably, Probationary Sub-Inspector Deepak Sharma’s demise has sent shockwaves through the police force and the community at large. His body has been returned to GMC hospital in Kathua for necessary procedures.
