Nikki Haley Bows Out Of US Presidential Campaign

Former UN ambassador Nikki Haley, a Republican, ended her White House campaign on Wednesday. She called on former president Donald Trump to win over moderates and independents who supported her in the primary.
“I hope Donald Trump does that,” Haley stated in a televised speech in Charleston, South Carolina. “It is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it who did not support him.”

Haley and Trump competed head-to-head for the opportunity to face President Joe Biden in November’s election, but Haley only won one state on “Super Tuesday” and never really stood in Trump’s way of winning the nomination.

Before Trump appointed the 52-year-old as ambassador to the UN in 2017, she was largely unknown outside of her home state of South Carolina. She utilized the prominent UN position to hone her reputation as a straightforward conservative.

She took great satisfaction in being the final opponent preventing Trump’s “chaos” and the Republican nomination for president in 2024.

“I am filled with gratitude for the outpouring of support we’ve received from all across our great country,” Haley said.

“But the time has now come to suspend my campaign. I said I wanted Americans to have their voices heard — I have done that. I have no regrets.”
