Narayana Murthy Gifts 4-Month-Old Grandson Shares Worth ₹ 240 Cr

NR Narayana Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys, has made headlines once more, but this time it’s not because he advocates working 70 hours a week. He has gifted shares worth over ₹ 240 crore to Ekagrah Rohan Murty, his four-month-old grandson making him a new member of the Indian millionaire club.
Ekagrah owns 15,00,000 Infosys shares, or 0.04 percent of the company, according to an exchange filing. “Off-market” transactions were made, according to the filing.

With 1.51 crore shares, Murthy’s stake in the tech company has decreased from 0.40 percent to 0.36 percent.

Ekagrah was born in November 2023 into the Rohan Murthy and Aparna Krishnan family. He is the third grandchild of Narayan and Sudha Murty, apart from Akshata Murty’s daughters. The name Ekagrah is said to have been inspired by the character Arjun from the Mahabharata. The term ‘Ekagrah’ in Sanskrit denotes unwavering focus and determination.

Murthy sparked a heated debate last year when he advocated young people to work seventy hours a week. He said that the nation’s educated populace owed it to the less fortunate to work “extremely hard” in a podcast.
