PM Modi to Outgoing Cabinet: Focus on Nation Building, Numbers Game is Part of Politics

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the outgoing Union Cabinet on Wednesday, emphasized the importance of prioritizing the nation’s welfare over political maneuvers. In the aftermath of a resounding victory in the Lok Sabha elections, Modi urged his ministers to continue their dedicated service to the country and its citizens.

“Numbers game will go on. You keep working for the nation and society,” Modi said, underscoring the need for unwavering commitment to public service. He acknowledged the significant achievements of the past decade and stressed the importance of building on this foundation. “Good work has been done for 10 years. That has to be taken forward,” he added.

The Prime Minister’s remarks came a day after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) clinched 292 out of 543 seats in the Lok Sabha, surpassing the majority threshold by 19 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Modi’s party, secured 240 seats on its own. With this decisive mandate, Modi is poised to be sworn in as Prime Minister for an unprecedented third term over the weekend, as the NDA gears up to form the government.

Earlier on Wednesday, Modi and his Union cabinet ministers submitted their resignations at Rashtrapati Bhavan. This procedural formality was followed by discussions among NDA allies, including key figures such as the Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) Chandrababu Naidu and the Janata Dal (United)’s Nitish Kumar. Naidu, whose party won 16 seats, and Kumar, with 12 seats, are expected to play significant roles in the formation of the new government.
