Ally JD(U), seeks rethink on Agnipath scheme from BJP-led NDA

Rethinking the Agnipath scheme for soldier induction into the Indian Armed Forces is necessary, according to the Janata Dal (United), hours after the party announced its endorsement of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
JD (U) spokesperson KC Tyagi stated on a news channel that the Agnipath plan needs to be reevaluated from the ground up. There has been discontent following the plan, which was revealed in June 2022, according to Tyagi, who also said, “I assume their families vented their resentment in the recent Lok Sabha elections.”

Leader of the JD (U) and Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, was in the National Capital on Wednesday for an NDA meeting where his party gave their vote of confidence to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

During the Lok Sabha election campaign, questions about the Angipath scheme, its recruitment process, and the future of the youth were raised. The Congress even made a pledge to discontinue the programme.
