Kangana Ranaut and Javed Akhtar have put an end to their prolonged legal battle, settling the defamation case filed by the veteran screenwriter against the actress. The two reached an amicable resolution through mediation, which Ranaut confirmed on social media with a photo of herself alongside Akhtar, taken at the Bandra magistrate’s court in Mumbai on Friday.

In her post, Kangana Ranaut expressed gratitude toward Akhtar, noting that he was “very kind and gracious” during the mediation process. She also shared that Akhtar had agreed to write songs for her upcoming directorial project. The legal dispute between the two had been ongoing since 2020, when Akhtar accused Ranaut of making defamatory remarks about him in a television interview.

The feud traces its origins to 2016, following Kangana’s public fallout with actor Hrithik Roshan. Akhtar, reportedly close to the Roshan family, allegedly urged Ranaut to apologize to Roshan during a meeting. Akhtar later claimed that Ranaut’s comments, which included dragging his name into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, tarnished his reputation.

In response, Ranaut filed a counter-complaint in 2021, accusing Akhtar of criminal intimidation and insulting her modesty during a meeting in 2016. With the settlement now reached, both parties have chosen to move forward, closing the chapter on their long-standing dispute.
