Prashant Kishor Arrested In Patna While On Indefinite Hunger Strike At Gandhi Maidan

Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraaj Party, was arrested by Bihar police on Monday morning while on an indefinite hunger strike at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Sources report that Kishor was “forcibly” taken to AIIMS in an ambulance and has been isolated from others. Despite being taken to the hospital, Kishor has refused medical treatment and remains committed to continuing his fast unto death.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Awakash Kumar, Kishor and other protesters were illegally demonstrating in a restricted area near the Gandhi statue in Gandhi Maidan, demanding a five-point agenda. An FIR was filed at the Gandhi Maidan police station for the unlawful protest. Despite repeated requests and ample time given to vacate the area, the protesters refused to leave, Kumar said.

“Today, on January 6, Prashant Kishore and some of his supporters were arrested in the morning. They are all in good health, and action is being taken to present them before the court as per the prescribed procedure,” SSP Kumar added.

A video shared by ANI shows a large team of Patna police attempting to remove Kishor from the protest site, while his fellow protesters tried to prevent his removal. The police also cleared the site of other demonstrators.
