Mohini Dey Addresses Divorce Rumours Linking Her to AR Rahman: ‘I Know Exactly…’

In a week marked by significant personal revelations, Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman and his bassist Mohini Dey have found themselves at the center of unsubstantiated rumours linking their separate life events. Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, announced their separation after 29 years of marriage, while Mohini Dey revealed her divorce from husband Mark Hurtasuch.

The close timing of these announcements sparked baseless online speculation about a connection between the two, prompting both parties to issue clarifications.

Breaking her silence on the matter, Mohini took to Instagram to denounce the rumours and urged respect for her privacy. She wrote, “I’ve been getting a humongous amount of requests for interviews, and I know exactly what it’s about. I have to respectfully turn each one down because I am not interested in fueling into ABSOLUTE BS.”

She further emphasized her disinterest in engaging with false narratives, adding, “I believe my energy is not worth spending on RUMOURS. Kindly, respect my privacy.”

Similarly, AR Rahman’s family has dismissed the speculations. Rahman’s legal team categorically denied any link between his separation and Mohini’s announcement. Rahman’s son, AR Ameen, also addressed the controversy with a heartfelt post on Instagram. Sharing a photo of Rahman with a baby, he wrote, “My father is a legend, not just for his incredible contributions, but for the values, respect, and love he has earned over the years. It’s disheartening to see false and baseless rumours being spread.”

Ameen called for an end to the misinformation, saying, “Let us all remember the importance of truth and respect when speaking about someone’s life and legacy.”

Mohini Dey, an internationally acclaimed bassist, has collaborated with global icons like Zakir Hussain, Willow Smith, and Steve Vai, in addition to her work with Rahman. Beginning her musical career at just nine years old, she is now celebrated as one of the most talented musicians of her generation.

Both Rahman’s family and Mohini Dey have urged the public and media to refrain from engaging in speculation and to respect their personal boundaries during these challenging times.
