Actor Naga Chaitanya set social media abuzz on Tuesday when a video of him dressed as a groom began circulating online. Fans were momentarily confused, thinking the actor, who recently got engaged to Sobhita Dhulipala, might have already tied the knot. However, the excitement turned out to be about Chaitanya launching a wedding collection for a popular clothing brand.
Speaking at the event, Chaitanya playfully acknowledged the confusion, saying, “Perhaps you could think so, that it’s a countdown kinda for my marriage,” but he remained tight-lipped about the actual wedding date and venue. When asked if appearing in a groom’s outfit felt like a rehearsal for his upcoming nuptials, the actor hinted it might be.
Discussing his preferences for the wedding, Chaitanya shared, “Marriage is about the people who mean a lot to me. It doesn’t have to be a big fat wedding but people keeping up with the cultures and traditions in mind, so that’s how I want it to be.” Despite the speculation, he confirmed that the wedding date and location have not yet been finalized.
Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita Dhulipala got engaged on August 8 in a private ceremony at Chaitanya’s home. The couple made their relationship public with a poetic message, quoting a verse from Kurunthogai, translated by A.K. Ramanujan: “What could my mother be to yours? What kin is my father to yours anyway? And how did you and I meet ever? But in love our hearts are as red earth and pouring rain: mingled beyond parting.”
Chaitanya’s father, veteran actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, also welcomed Sobhita into the family on social media. In an interview with Times Now, Nagarjuna explained that the couple chose their engagement date based on its auspiciousness, saying, “Both families consulted the Nakshatras, and when we were told August 8 was a very auspicious day, we decided to go ahead with it.”
This engagement marks a new chapter for Naga Chaitanya, who was previously married to actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The former couple married in 2017 and amicably parted ways in 2021.
