Oscars 2024: Oppenheimer Wins 7 Out of 13 Awards, Best Picture

At the 96th Academy Awards, it was Oppenheimer all the way, taking home seven of the thirteen Oscars for which it was nominated. Best Picture, Best Actor (Christopher Nolan), Best Supporting Actor (Robert Downey Jr.), and Best Actor (Cillian Murphy) were the winners. A number of technical honors and Best Original Score were also given to the movie.

Lily Gladstone, who starred in Killers of the Flower Moon, was devastated that she did not win the Best Actress Oscar, becoming the first indigenous person to do so. Emma Stone, who also won three other Oscars, took home the trophy for Poor Things. Da’Vine Joy Randolph finished this awards season with a perfect sweep, winning Best Supporting Actress for The Holdovers.
Best Original Screenplay went to Anatomy of a Fall, while Best Adapted Screenplay went to American Fiction. Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell won Best Original Song for What Was I Made For? from Barbie – this was the film’s only win of the eight Oscars it was nominated for.

At the shortlist stage, the official entry from India, the Malayalam film ‘2018: Everyone Is A Hero’, withdrew from consideration. India-based documentary ‘To Kill A Tiger’ was a contender for Best Documentary Feature; 20 Days In Mariupol emerged victorious.
