India’s first digital census will be conducted in 2027. The 2027 Census will be the first fully digital census in history. The government has approved a budget of ₹11,718 crore for this purpose. The process will be completed in two phases, with people able to enter their own information through a mobile app or portal. The first phase (house listing) will begin in April 2026.
