16-Year-Old Kaamya Karthikeyan Becomes Youngest Indian to Summit Mt. Everest

Kaamya Karthikeyan, a 16-year-old student from Navy Children School, Mumbai, has made history by becoming the youngest Indian and the second youngest girl in the world to summit Mount Everest from the Nepal side. Accompanied by her father, Commander S. Karthikeyan of the Indian Navy, Kaamya reached the peak of the world’s highest mountain, standing at 8849 meters, on May 20, 2024.

Kaamya’s achievement is a significant milestone in her ongoing mission to conquer the highest peaks on all seven continents, known as the 7 Summits Challenge. Having already completed six of these formidable climbs, she now sets her sights on Mount Vinson Massif in Antarctica, with plans to summit this December. Should she succeed, Kaamya will become the youngest girl in the world to accomplish this extraordinary feat.

The Indian Navy celebrated her accomplishment on their social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), stating: “#IndianNavy congratulates Ms Kaamya Karthikeyan d/o Cdr S Karthikeyan on becoming the youngest #Indian & the second youngest girl in the world to summit Mt Everest from the Nepal side. Kaamya has exhibited immense courage & fortitude in summiting the highest peaks in six of the seven continents. #IndianNavy wishes young Kaamya the very best in her aspiration to summit the highest peaks of all seven continents, becoming the youngest girl to do so. #7SummitsChallenge”
