Historic Golden Sceptre to be Installed in new Parliament building

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new parliament building this Sunday. A golden sceptre, called “sengol,” will be installed near the Speaker’s seat. Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that this sceptre was handed over to Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister, signifying the transfer of power from the British. “Sengol” derives from the Tamil word “semmai,” meaning “righteousness.”
