Gurbani Telecast Row: SGPC delegation meets Union Minister Anurag Thakur
Amidst escalating tensions between the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Punjab government, discussions over the telecast of Gurbani on a satellite channel have taken a contentious turn. The SGPC delegation, led by its President Harjinder Singh Dhami, today met with Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, in Delhi to seek permission for launching a dedicated satellite channel for broadcasting Gurbani.
The meeting, which lasted for nearly half an hour, involved cordial deliberations over the crucial matter of broadcasting Gurbani.
The meeting comes in the backdrop of Punjab government’s recent introduction of the Sikh Gurdwara Act (Amendment) Bill 2023. Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has accused the SGPC of trying to promote a private entity by allowing Gurbani telecast only on one channel.
The SGPC, on the other had has accused CM Mann of meddling in Sikh affairs. The committee, had on Monday launched a YouTube channel for telecast of Gurbani from the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
