CM Shinde Govt To Change Name Of Ahemadnagar To Ahilyanagar

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde today announced to rename the city of Ahmednagar to Ahilyanagar. He made the announcement on the 298th birth anniversary of Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar.

CM Eknath Shinde said that from now on Ahmednagar will be called Ahilyanagar after the Maratha queen Ahilyadevi Holkar.

Pertinently, this was a long-standing demand from BJP leaders and also has come in at the backdrop of name changes to two other Muslim-sounding places- Aurangabad and Osmanabad to Chatrapati Sambhajinagar and Dharashiv respectively.
